Pilates Mat and Reformer Classes

Beginner

  • In all of these classes, the clients will be taken through the basic principles of Pilates; breathing techniques, pelvic alignments, etc… Then, they will start with very basic exercises from the instructor’s repertoire. These classes will not be vigorous. The emphasis in these classes will be to allow the client to utilize the basic principles to gain a full understanding of the techniques. Due to the pace of the class, the Instructor is on hand to assist everyone and make any adjustments needed to each student.
  • For students who have done Pilates before but they have had a long gap since their last class and require a refresher.
  • For students with severe postural defects or injuries, hindering them from vigorous movement, they require very close monitoring. In these instances, beginner’s classes can be all they need, due to the fact that they are getting mobilisation.
  • REFORMER BEGINNERS: this class can be done if the client is attending Beginner Mat classes OR if they have attended 2-4 Beginner Mat classes.

Level 1

  • After the completion of 4-5 regular beginner classes, the instructor will advise the student if they are eligible to move to the next level (1). Students must display ample understanding and ability in the beginner’s class. In this level, the instructor will begin to put the repertoire together in a more rhythmical manner, small challenges will be added accordingly (i.e. tabletop legs)
  • For students who have done Pilates before but they have had a long gap since their last class and require a refresher.
  • GINNERS: this class can be done if the client is attending Beginner Mat classes OR if they have attended 2-4 Beginner Mat classes.

Level 1/2

  • This level is for students who have attended regular Pilates Level 1 and/ or 2 classes for at least 4 to 6 months. Students should display ample understanding and ability in Level 1 or 2 classes. These classes will cater to students in a “mixed” level environment, offering varied modifications where relevant.

Level 2 (Intermediate)

  • This level is for students who have attended regular Pilates Level 1 classes for at least 4 to 6 months. If they were regular Level 1 students, then the instructor will advise them if they are eligible to move to the next level. Students should display ample understanding and ability in Level 1 class. Again, the instructor will begin to put the repertoire together in a more rhythmical manner, greater challenges will be added accordingly, i.e. equipment, more challenging leg positions, increasing the intensity, challenging coordination, Swan Dive Prep to Full Swan Dive, Teaser 1 to Teaser 2, etc…

Level 3 (advanced)

  • This level is for students who have attended regular Pilates Level 2 classes for at least 6 months – 1 year. If they were regular Level 2 clients, then the instructor will advise them if they are eligible to move to the next level. Clients should display ample understanding and ability in Level 2 class. Again, the instructor will begin to put the repertoire together in a more rhythmical manner, greater challenges will be added accordingly, i.e. equipment, more challenging leg positions, increasing the intensity, challenging coordination, moving through the Teaser series to the addition of the Boomerang, etc…
